The AP Congress Committee has decided to register “cheating” cases against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at police stations across the State.
APCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy said the party was collecting proof such as video and audio records of the statements made by the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister on special category status, as also the speeches in Parliament, for registering cases.
“We will register cases under Section 418 of the IPC at all the 1,121 police stations in the State if the Central government fails to make a statement on the grant of special status by Thursday, the last day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament,” Mr. Reddy said.
He alleged that the Chief Minister and Union Ministers from the State had dropped enough hints that the State would not secure special status. “This exposed the manner in which TDP leaders were trying to compromise on the interests of the State for personal gains. The talk of packages by Union Ministers and TDP MPs is reflective of their business interests rather than the welfare of the State,” he said, adding that Mr. Naidu, on his part, was trying to wriggle out of the cash-for-vote episode with the help of the Centre.
He wondered as to why the BJP was backtracking on the promises it had made to AP on the floor of Parliament as also in the AP Reorganisation Act. “The Centre had failed to initiate steps on the implementation of promises like bridging revenue deficit, release of funds for the Polavaram project that had been conferred national project status, funds for the construction of the capital and release of grants for the backward regions of north coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema, Mr. Reddy said.
