With the mandate of bringing Maggi instant noodles back, Nestle India, the manufacturer of the product, on Saturday said the noodle brand will be back in the market soon.
In an exclusive interview to CNBC-TV18, Nestle India MD Suresh Narayanan said, “Maggi is a vital part of Nestle portfolio. Nestle has been in India for 100 years and wants to continue growing for 100 more.”
“Maggi being off the shelves impacts rest of the value chain,” Narayanan said.
Narayanan said the company is also open to discussion with the government on quality of products. “We are a transparent, embedded organisation, open to talking on quality. We do 100 million tests worldwide as a company. Quality is a pillar on which we sustain our business. We will not think this to be a confrontation with the government, this is a discussion,” he said.
Maggi noodles, a popular brand of noodle manufactured in India, was banned in different states after a high level of lead along with excessive amounts of taste enhancer such as monosodium glutamate (MSG) were allegedly detected in the food item.
Lead content in 14 of 27 samples in India was allegedly found to be 2.8 PPM to 5 PPM (particle per million), which is above the prescribed limit of 2.5 PPM. Presence of excess lead is harmful for health.
