Bombay HC grants bail to Salman Khan in hit-and-run case, says can’t be unfair to the influential

salman khanIt was just a few days ago that Mumbai Sessions Court handed out a 5-year-long jail sentence to Salman Khan in connection with a hit and run case which took place nearly 13 years ago.

Now, in a development that may give the Bollywood actor a reason to rejoice, the Mumbai High court has suspended the sentence, granting the ‘Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam’ star bail pending his appeal against conviction.

“He has been on bail for a long time and his liberty was not curtailed. Normally, in such cases, the appeal is admitted and an accused is granted bail” Justice Abhay Thipsay said.

The judge, however, made it clear that Khan would have to appear before a Trial court and furnish a new bail bond of Rs 30,000.

Interestingly, Thipsay had on May 6 given a two-day bail to the actor, merely hours after the sentencing, saying that he had not been given a detailed order stressing on the grounds for his conviction. The bail was set to expire today.

The court will now call for documents from the Trial Court on June 15. The judge will thereafter, decide upon a date in July to resume hearing of the actor’s plea against conviction.

In the meanwhile, ‘Bhai’ has questioned the findings of the Trial court which stated that he was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Moreover, Khan has pleaded that he has been incorrectly convicted under the culpable homicide charge, stating that he had no intuition about meeting wit an accident. While applying for bail, the star emphasized that he had never violated any of the bail conditions imposed on him, previously.

Needless to say, this development has gone done extremely well with the ‘Being Human’ crusader’s countless fans.
