Prakasam police on Monday arrested B.V.S.R. Engineering College Chairman Buchepalli Subba Reddy and ECE Head of Department D. Malakonda Reddy for allegedly ”abetting” suicide by a B.Tech student on September 5.
Tense situation prevailed at Chimakurthy for some time as hundreds of students of the college blocked vehicular traffic on the Ongole-Kurnool road in protest against the arrest of the duo. The police intervened and restored vehicular traffic.
The H.O.D. and Mr. Subba Reddy, the former MLA from Darsi and YSR Congress leader were arrested under IPC section 360 based on the findings during probe into the circumstances leading to the suicide of 21-year-old K. Anusha at Kothapalem, near Thallur and entries made by the student in her diary, said Darsi Circle Inspector K. Ragavendra.
It was found during questioning of the college students that Anusha, an average student with 70 per cent marks, had been awarded lesser marks in the tests following differences with the H.O.D, the CI said, adding that the student had in her diary recorded the alleged harrasment by the H.O.D.
But the college Management had turned a blind eye to her complaints against the H.O.D, the CI said. Following this, the student stopped going to the college for about 10 days before taking the extreme step when her parents were away from home. The student’s father Rami Reddy, in a complaint held the college responsible for his daughter’s suicide.
