A four-year-old boy died after falling into an abandoned borewell on an agriculture field at Pulicherla village of Nalgonda district in Telanagana on Sunday. Though villagers and officials acted swiftly and dug a parallel pit within four hours, they could not save him.
Since there was water at 25 feet level, the boy drowned in it.
The officials shifted the boy, who was unconscious, to the Government Hospital, Nagarjunasagar, where the doctors declared him brought dead.
The deceased Balagoni Shiva was playing on the agriculture field while his parents Narasimha, Saritha and others were working nearby.
The abandoned borewell was covered with gunny bags. But the boy removed them while playing and slipped into the borewell accidentally at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
His parents said that initially he was stuck at 10 feet level of 250-foot borewell. But he slipped down further to the 25 feet level. Villagers and officials gathered at the site within half an hour and dug a parallel pit using three earth movers.
The supplied oxygen into the well, but he got drowned in the water.
Deverakonda DSP, Chandramohan, said they had retrieved the boy within four hours and found him in unconscious state. He was rushed to Nagarjunasagar hospital. The parents and relatives were inconsolable.
