In yet another case of cyber crime against women, a third-year Computer Science student here allegedly stalked around 200 teenage school girls on social networking website Facebook by creating a fake account and then luring them to share their nude photos.
On receiving these nude pics of the teens, Majid used to threaten and blackmail the girls, saying that he would upload them on porn sites if he was not given money – or more nude photos.
While social networking and micro-blogging sites are great tools to stay connected, they are also easy to misuce. Similarly in this case, the 21-year-old male student used to chat with other girls via his fake ‘female account’. Later, by playing with their emotions and gaining their trust, Majid used to become their ‘friend’ and later used to blackmail them.
The accused, held by the Cyberabad police, has been identified as Abdul Majid who used to created several fake FB accounts in the name of girls and used to send requests to school girls of reputed schools.
According to a Cyberabad police release, Majid posed as a teenage girl, created six Facebook accounts in the name of teenage girls by uploading profile pictures from the internet and befriended as many as 200 girls.
“Majid’s interrogation revealed that since 18 months, he had browsed for Facebook profiles of girl students of reputed schools in Hyderabad city and sent them “friend requests”, the release said.
The realeas further said, “Since recipients thought that the Facebook account is of a girl, they accepted these friend requests.”
“Majid sent messages posing as a teenage girl and persuaded them to share their secrets, after which some of the girls did so while chatting with him online,” it added.
“After this, Majid asked them to share their nude pictures with him. After they refused to do so, he intimidated them that if they do not oblige, he would post the online chat text on their Facebook wall, so that all contacts would read them,” the release said.
Frightened by this threat, most of the girls shared their private pictures with him, the release said.
“Later, he made calls to the victims from different phone numbers and blackmailed them to share their private pictures,” the release said.
Eight young women were bullied into sending him photos of themselves naked. One young woman, who did not wish to be identified, paid him Rs 86,000, as per an English news channel.
Majid’s real identity was unraveled when a student he stalked, complained to her mother, who went to the police and lodged a report.
