The fake pattadar pass book scam has taken an expected turn, with the joint investigation of the revenue and police officials yielding not less than 500 fake pattadar pass books in some banks of Kambadur mandal of the district alone.
As part of the process initiated by the district administration on Monday, the special teams formed by the Revenue Department under the stewardship of the Joint Collector B. Lakhsmikantam, started looking into the records of all the banks in the Dharmavaram and Kambadur mandals.
A senior official of the Revenue Department involved in the process of verification of pass books, told that the finding of fake pass books in the Kambadur mandal has confirmed the fact that not just one but many such gangs were indeed operating in the district.
“The fact that the scam has a geographic spread across the district is also proven as Kambadur is more than 50 kms away from the district headquarter. If the fake pass books were to exist, the collusion of the VRO concerned, whether he be current or retired is necessary,” the source, who requested anonymity added.
