tigerHours before 1993 Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon’s hanging on July 30, his brother and one of India’s ‘most wanted’ people Mushtaq ‘Tiger’ Memon rang up the Memon family.

According to sources, Tiger Memon in his phone call spoke about taking revenge for his brother’s death. Sources also say that he called on the landline number of the family just one-and-half hours before his younger brother Yakub was to be hanged.

The phone call was intercepted by Mumbai Police and the central agencies were informed. Security agencies in Mumbai and Delhi have confirmed that Tiger called the Memon family.

Sources say that the Mumbai Police officials listening to the conversation have identified Tiger’s voice. Concerns have also been raised about the prospect of retaliatory terror attacks as he promised he would avenge Yakub’s death.

According to investigating agencies, Tiger Memon got Yakub involved in planning and plotting the serial blasts that killed at least 257 people and injured about 700 on March 12, 1993.

Yakub was hanged to death after the Supreme Court dismissed his curative petition against death sentence and in unprecedented legal proceedings which went on through the night.
