All-India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the special category status to the newly bifurfcated Andhra Pradesh immediately.
Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee on Friday brought to public notice a letter which was dated February 19 and addressed to the Prime Minister. In this letter Ms. Sonia Gandhi said the special category status and all commitments in a time bound manner were conveyed in the special address of the President.
Ms.Sonia already requested in her earlier letter dated June 2 in connection with the implementation of the AP Reorganisation Act 2014.After 8 months period of post-bifurcation the State, many investment and other commitments made by the Centre have not been fulfilled. Special category status announced to the successor State of A..P.., by the then Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, on the floor of Rajya Sabha on February 20 last year was not yet authorised.
She also added, sufficient budget provisions need to be made to various Central Ministries to enable implementation of the development package committed in the Reorganisation Act.
